The recommended (and easiest) way to get SP1 is to turn on automatic updating in Windows Update in Control Panel and wait for Windows 7 to notify you that SP1 is ready to install. We recommend you move to a Windows 11 PC to continue to receive security updates from Microsoft. It worked for me, and I downloaded the Windows 7 SP 1 successfully (I needed it to update my Internet Explorer from IE 9.0 to IE 11.0, as IE 9 was no longer supported, and so giving total grief when trying to view content in other websites).Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020

Type in your SP 1 number in this Catalog options afterwards (for me it was KB976932, so I put in 976932).Īnd from there you follow the instructions (as given in the link showing the images etc.,). Note, I have a slow download broadband, so it took ages, however, it eventually downloaded, and so glad it did.Īlso download the Microsoft Update Catalog in the above link (it's very small). Go to this Microsoft site ( DISM or System Readiness Tool) - the series of accompanying images here will explain and should help, too.ĭownload the DISM appropriate for your OS (32, 64 etc.you'll find them about half way down the page for Win 7 SP1). The only way I could get SP 1 on to my computer was through the link below and followed those options - so delighted it worked: Btw, I had Windows 7 Premium edition on my computer, and didn't have to disable my Norton anti-virus. Yes, it would begin to install, but then, as above, fail. I eventually got SP 1 to install (after several failed attempts through the Update Options that come with Windows 7). To turn it on, merely click on the icon within the task bar. You will see, afterwards, an icon at the bottom of the task bar coming up a message saying that your Firewall has been turned off.

Restart your computer and before the login page, you will need to wait about seven minutes given that the Service Pack 1 will be being configured. Once you have installed it, re-enable your Anti Virus and your Firewall.

It is a Windows Update Standalone Installer.Īfter installing it, you can try instaling the service pack 1.

You can download the 'Windows 7 64-bit (圆4)' here. It might depend on your Anti Virus and your Firewall which don't allow Windows Update to instal the Service Pack 1.įirst up, download and run the SUR tool, which can fix problems that might prevent Windows updates from instaling.
